Pierre Filliez: Oil paintings and mixed techniques on wood and canevas
_____
« I paint imaginary universes, oil paintings and mixed techniques on wood and canevas, inspired by reality and also landscapes and with a theatre background, I aim to tell stories through images. Nature inspires my landscapes, needing no more fantasy as it already holds such a deep beauty within. Some of the other painting styles that I do are drawn from society, human nature, and fantasy. They tell a story and require an audience. »
Paysages 2016-currently
_____
I am interested in reproducing landscapes that are close to my heart. It is a very meditative exercise that brings me a lot. I feel less need to paint imaginary or fantasy worlds. Perhaps this need for extravagance is satisfied in my highly colourful daily life. Since 2016 I have been very active as a puppeteer and mask maker, I have married my wonderful « mate » who is Australian. So she makes me travel. And our daughter was born. Her name is Rose, in memory of my beloved grandmother.
Perspectives 2010-2016
_____
The cobblestones of the old towns are transformed into chequered floors. Some animals appear as forgotten ancient gods. During these years, I left Paris, live one year in Belgium near Brussels and move to Berlin in November 2011.
Paris 2008-2010
_____
Paintings made during my few years in Paris. I stayed there for a new training at the Jacques Lecoq International Theatre School. To help finance my studies, I worked in a small café in the heart of le Marais. The paintings below are painted on the wood of the fruit & vegetable crates that were thrown in the rubbish and that I collected.

The first oil paintings, done when I moved to the town of Sion (Switzerland), a town I loved very much and whose medieval architecture has – and still inspires me a lot.
